The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH JEFF GLOR is bringing back EYE ON AMERICA, the renowned CBS News series featuring long-form reporting and in-depth storytelling that will examine important issues affecting the country. Modeled after the long-running series first introduced to CBS EVENING NEWS viewers in the 1990s, the new EYE ON AMERICA series will maintain the Network’s tradition of original reporting and innovative storytelling to deliver comprehensive and thought-provoking reports. EYE ON AMERICA will take a modern approach to this classic CBS News franchise by incorporating a distinctive storytelling style that will immerse viewers into the on-the-ground reporting.
“EYE ON AMERICA will feature stories that are longer and more immersive than ones typically seen on a nightly basis. We want to give viewers an opportunity to get a deeper understanding of some of the key issues impacting the nation,” said Mosheh Oinounou, executive producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH JEFF GLOR. “This storied franchise is one of the best examples of frontline journalism that CBS News was built on and one that will also resonate on all of our new digital platforms.”
The first several reports will feature CBS News correspondents traveling across America examining the role of teachers in the age of mass shootings, the fight over sanctuary cities and living with opioid addiction. Tonight’s report will feature how the job description for teachers has changed as they have become the last line of defense in keeping kids safe. CBS News Correspondent Adriana Diaz visits an Arizona pre-school where teachers are learning survival tactics in the event of a mass shooting.
Next week, David Begnaud reports on the fight over sanctuary cities by embedding within a Georgia jail where police have been deputized as ICE agents in the crackdown on illegal immigration. In another upcoming report, Tony Dokoupil will give viewers an in-depth look at the ever-changing face of addiction: young, suburban, employed and high on fentanyl.
In addition to the broadcast stories, the EYE ON AMERICA series will feature digital extras on CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 streaming news service; CBSNews.com; and on the CBS EVENING NEWS’ social media platforms.
The CBS EVENING NEWS first introduced EYE ON AMERICA in April 1991 as a daily, in-depth segment that was produced by domestic bureaus across the country. It looked closely at a wide variety of issues from education to health to social trends. In the first EYE ON AMERICA segment, CBS News Correspondent Bruce Morton examined education reform and how Kentucky made strides to turn around failing schools.
The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH JEFF GLOR launched in December 2017. Glor, an Emmy Award winner and veteran CBS News journalist, joined the Network in 2007. Before being named CBS EVENING NEWS anchor, Glor was a CBS News correspondent and lead anchor on CBSN during its critical launch period; he maintains a prominent presence on the digital streaming channel. The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH JEFF GLOR streams on CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 streaming news service, every weeknight at 10:00 PM, ET.
